Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 18, 2026
This policy describes how the Kikishima macOS app, the api.kikishima.com service and this website handle data. Kikishima is operated by Camesoul, a sole proprietorship based in Japan.
Audio
Speech recognition runs on your Mac using Apple's on-device speech framework. Audio is not uploaded to our servers.
Meeting text sent for translation (default mode)
By default, to produce live translations, transcribed text, the preceding caption text used as context, and your glossary are sent to our server at api.kikishima.com, which forwards them to a third-party AI model provider (currently OpenAI). Our server does not store meeting content; it records only usage counts (tokens and number of requests) for quota and billing purposes. The AI provider processes the text under its own terms and may retain it for a limited period as described in its policies.
Using your own OpenAI API key (optional)
You can choose to use your own OpenAI API key instead of a Kikishima account. In this mode, translation requests are sent directly from your Mac to OpenAI (api.openai.com) and do not pass through our servers. Your API key is stored in the macOS Keychain on your Mac, restricted to this device, and is sent only to OpenAI as the authorization for those requests. We never receive or store your API key. Your use of OpenAI in this mode is governed by your own agreement with OpenAI.
Meeting summaries
If you request a meeting summary, the transcript text is sent to api.kikishima.com, which forwards it to the AI model provider to generate the summary, using your Kikishima account. Our server does not store the transcript or the summary.
Calendar
If you grant calendar access and select a calendar event for a meeting, Kikishima reads the event's title, time and attendee display names. The title and attendee names are added to the glossary for that meeting only, so they are sent along with the translation requests described above (to our server, or directly to OpenAI if you use your own key). The title is also used to name the local transcript file. Kikishima never modifies your calendar.
Transcripts and summaries
Meeting transcripts are saved as Markdown files on your Mac, by default in Documents/Kikishima (you can choose another folder). Summaries are saved next to them in a hidden .kikishima-summaries folder. They are not uploaded to our servers except when you request a summary as described above. You can delete them at any time.
Account
You can sign in with email (one-time code), Google or Apple. We store your email address, the sign-in provider identifier, your plan, subscription status and usage counters. Sign-in codes are stored only as hashes and expire. Sign-in emails are sent via Resend.
Payments
Payments are handled by Polar. We do not receive or store card details. We receive subscription status, product and period end date from Polar, matched to your account by email.
Downloads and update checks
When you download the app or it checks for updates, we log the file and version, the country determined by Cloudflare, the user-agent, and a truncated one-way hash of your IP address and user-agent. We do not store your IP address in plain text. We use this to count downloads and active installs.
Analytics and crash reports
The Kikishima app does not include any analytics or crash-reporting SDKs. This website (kikishima.com) uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page visits and measure page performance. It does not use cookies, does not store data in your browser, and does not track you across sites. This website sets no cookies.
Chrome extension
The optional Kikishima Chrome extension reads subtitle tracks of supported video sites (currently YouTube) and sends that subtitle text through api.kikishima.com for translation, using your Kikishima account.
Service providers
Cloudflare (hosting, database), OpenAI (AI translation and summaries), Polar (payments), Resend (email), Google and Apple (optional sign-in).
Retention and your rights
Account data is kept while your account is active. The app does not currently offer in-app account deletion; to access your data or request deletion of your account, email support@kikishima.com. After your account is deleted, we delete your data from our servers within 30 days. Polar, as merchant of record, retains transaction records in accordance with its own policies.
